THE EFFECT OF THE CULTURE ON THE SOCIAL LIFE
In Jamal Fayez Works

This research was coursed for studying the
Qatari Writer Jamal Fayez and comparing the values and the behavior of
the modern community. This subject is considered as one of the most
important subjects in every age and society especially in this modern
community, because of that the culture has fewer roles and the people
forgot their parents' customs and things that have an important value in
the past.
We live in a new age and the changes that touch
all fields of life. The social value has been understood in a different
way. When we need to come back gradually to the essential meanings of
the old idioms like; honor, pride, honesty, dignity, and faith, and
things like self confidence and return to origin and roots that was
created in the man and was disfigured during the years of collapse. We
go towards the origin and the public traditions that we've lost and
which caused social morality sickness. I study the Arabic language and
it is an attractive language and I want to know more and the oriental
culture, and about the oriental people and community. It is hard to
increase the value which was brought by the Arabian Culture in the
history of global culture development. The Arab has participated in
building many of art monuments which was come form their understanding
of beauty. Although there are many features shared in Arab arts, each
region has its special feature which is related to its art traditions.
For instance the art monuments in Syria is different form others in
Iraq, Egypt, and North Africa. And it is not a secret that the Arabian
art has left it effect on many other countries and European arts. For
that reason I decided to study the Oriental Culture like the creation of
the Qatari writer Jamal Fayez and compare his works with our culture.
The goal of this research is to study the social relations of
western modern community and compare them with social relations of
oriental modern community as in the works of the writer Jamal Fayez. To
achieve that goal, we should study these matters:
1- Exp l aining the meaning of the
culture.
2- Study the development of social
relations in the world through the social science/
3- Answer the question: Why do the representatives of people behave
in a different way in similar situations?
4- What is the value of language in the culture?
The results of that research and the extension of the knowledge in that
field are used for following the study of that subject.
The scientific research consists of four
chapters. The first one includes meaning the idiom Culture and the
behavior and the value of the language as an important factor. In that
chapter, we study the role of the woman in the western and oriental
communities in Jamal Fayez' story "the Harvest Day".
The second chapter presents the scientists proves of the
mechanism of the social relations. And in that chapter, we compare this
mechanism through the oriental stories of Jamal Fayez "Al-Sharnaqah"
(the petal) and "Al-mokafaah" (the Reward) and we study the humanity and
the individual behavior in the social relations system.
The third chapter presents the history of
the Islamic community. And by the guidance of the history events that
show effect of the west on the Islamic community.
The fourth chapter studies the world cases and
the horizon of developing civilizations.
Jamal Fayiz tries to live the culture and social
values in his literature works. He felt that the community needs to
return to original values and he treated that case in his stories which
showed many different levels of community mechanism. That makes the new
generation could return to the correct way in that hard days and avoid
the mistakes and have the ability of building a bright future. And now
about the character of the writer Jamal Fayez who was born in Qatar in
1964 and he finished studying in Qatar University in 1988. He holds B.A,
in Geography and works now in the culture and sports fields. His works
are published in many magazines such as" Al-Arabic", Al-Khaleej Al-Youm",
Al-Sharq" and others. His articles were issued weekly in newspapers. He
works as an editor for "Al-Rayyah" Newspaper and writes articles in the
Social Center of Handicap since 1993 where he recently works. His
stories are publish in many local and foreign newspapers and magazines,
and he got honorable awards form many establishments and corporations.
The short stories appeared in Qatar in the latest of 1960s
and the beginning of 1970s. Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Raheem Kafoud
noticed that movement and announced in his books about young male and
female writers who starting issuing their first groups that entered a
new stage and a got a good position to develop the literature of short
story. Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Raheem Kafoud mentioned the writer Jamal Fayez
among of those young writers whose new stories group was titled "Dancing
on the Edge of the Wound" and which we depended on in our study. This
group consists of 73 pages and includes the following stories: " The
Old Young", The wreck of Beyond Distances", " The Storm Sound", " The
Reward", " Harvest Day", " Darkening"," Rats and Rocks" amazing titles
as the stories themselves, when you read something new every time. These
short stories have a deep mean when you read; you find simple words that
make you think of the world cases.
Actually this is very painful by sorry: most of
us are not impolite or civilized. We do not know how to conduct in
public places, in transportations, in markets, in the street. And this
causes the continued quarrels and arguments with neighbors and friends
and because of the impoliteness that we are obliged to face everywhere
in shops, companies and even in hospitals.
We live in a complicated world and are mixed and
live with others, the bad individual mood transferred to another who
does not know how to control himself and transferred to a third, a
fourth, ect. Although each culture has its own "soul" and "biography",
it passes three stages in for its development: "Maturation, Flourish,
and Collapse". And getting over any culture on its first stage is the
legend theory of the world. In the second stage all cultures pass the
flourish of religion. And in the collapse stage the culture is trapped
and transferred to a civilization.
When Philosophy Scientist "Shbingular" described
that the civilization comes at the final stage of culture, and he
specified some characteristics like violence between people, among man
and nature, the civilization which means increasing number of towns and
townspeople, and dropping the importance of the spiritual side of life
and the overcoming of the materialistic side. "The life of human in that
time becomes manufactured and formal", said the Philosophy Scientist "Shbingular".
The effect of Bureaucracy" system on life fields, and culture became
mechanism characteristics. But we see that east has passed the west in
its look of world and its relations with the nature and the overcoming
of the feeling on the mind and the absence of violence and
individualism, the east has found a new independent way for development
which was an alternative way of developing the west "the civilized". In
our research we studied the above-mentioned matters and answered the
question: what is the reason of the differences between social classes
from the materialistic side? Why there are no equivalences between the
modern communities? Is there any chance for individuals to reach the
highest economical levels and what is it? There is a theory which says
that the non-equivalence in the community has a great effect on people's
lives. And there is also the individualism theory which shows the
individual conduct, depends on two factors: "the social status" and "
the role of the individual in the community". The social status-is the
position of a man in community and the rights and duties that connected
in his position. The role- is behavior side of the social status. The
social status related to the age, sex, origin, position, and the family
status. We can distinguish the original social status (Origin, Sex) and
the earned (Education, Position). A man can change his social status to
the best by getting for example: the higher education or to the worst.
At the same time the man who wants to
improve his moral sides in his character, should answer this question:
Do I respect the old-aged people, others' efforts, relatives and
friends? Can I love the tree growing under my window, the town where I
live in, the country where I grew up in, the people whom I swore to
love? Can I be a doctor, I do not save my abilities and time, and
sacrifice my behalf for others and make them happy? Can I stand for love
and goodness?
Where is the exit? Escaping to apart island and
live like Robenze Crouze? But in the past when people worked in farming,
they did not reach to thirties of their ages. Do we hide like craps in a
quite dark corner and live without worries, desires or efforts?
But firstly, this is an empty and boring life and
secondly, unemployment and laziness and quietness damage the man and
make him weak and unable to resist. So we ought to love, hate, resist,
put goals to be achieved and difficulties to be passed, do mistakes a
set off from the start.
We looked
to some important meanings such as the social communication,
personality, and its needs, the idealness in the community, and the
importance of family. We understood that the family is the main ring
that connects the man to the community and through he understands his
relation to a specific community.
By the favor of the writer Jamal Fayez we recognized the
oriental community and its characteristics. What is the community and
what is the culture? The culture- is not only amount information; the
culture is the soul of the man. The soul remains blond and deaf, even
the mind of the man gained a very large amount of human information.
The culture – before anything is the spiritual side of
a man and it is important to unite the feelings and the mind, the
humanity and science. Separating the science and the heart, the soul,
and the morality and this causes the unclear mentality which a man" A
mind on two legs" a robot without feelings. But there could not a
culture without science specially these nowadays. Science today- useful
human science- is counted as one of important sides of culture like the
soul and the feelings. At the end I wan to refer to the development of
whole world which supposes its conditionals to the humanity generally
and to the individual specially. The people on the earth need to fully
understand the formation of the completed world and the formation of
suitable concepts of forming a united humanity. The values which rise
the economical level and meet the increasing material needs, caused the
though "vulgar". The man is changed to a selfish creature and unlawful,
can not present any new materialistic requires every day, and can not
control himself or control a situation. The man needs to motives,
highest ideals and examples which he can sacrifice his life for. Most of
people see that the exit from the social crisis is found in the social
awareness, in growing up the individual and depends on renewing the
conducts and moral values. The point of view of the conservation
attitude is rounded on forming the new but on the best that was in the
past. The regular community is complete- the community forces balance
and differences between these forces are taken in an account. The matter
of forming new firm and good morals depends on its ability to give the
life the meaning which was lost, "The aristocratic soul and impression".
The conversation goes around on reforming levels of positions and the
necessary conditions for appearing "the self Spiritual model" which
includes the principle of aristocratic.
The world today entered a new millennium and it is fact
that makes the man goes towards the way that has passed, and form the
civilian side evaluating and doing all the possibilities to avoid the
mistakes he has committed in the past in order to change the better
life.
In the essential concept of "Globalization" of
almost the scientists, there is an idea of the complete system of
community. And this system consists of parts related to each other in
inside one piece. The "Globalization" in the generalized analysis means
first to process of gathering different human parts and complete it in
one system; secondly to unite the community and the nature.
As it is known, the east stands on nature than the
west. So most art works are for what inside the man, for the man's soul.
I admired the stories of Jamal Fayez and I am glad to have the chance to
touch the east and recognize it. And I in fully confidence can say that
my views in many things has been changed during my studies and research
on Jamal Fayez' works.
